East Coast Volunteer Service Day 2016

The World Mission Society Church of God in Orlando gave the residents at the Courtyards of Orlando Care Center a day to remember. On September 25, 2016, volunteers from the Orlando and Jacksonville Church of God locations showed up at the residents’ home for a surprise visit.

At 10:30 A.M., things kicked off with Church volunteer Aaron McGruder and his boy band. The group twisted their way across the stage with their dance moves. Then they performed a charming rendition of Roy Orbison’s 1964 classic “Pretty Woman.” After the performance, they made their way through the crowd of seniors to give special gifts. They gave the Care Center residents pretty handmade necklaces and paper flowers.

Next, a troop of toddlers and elementary students took the stage clothed in flower costumes. They performed “I Like the Flowers” by Beat Boppers. Additionally, even the senior members of the Church of God performed. They entertained the crowd with a soulful version of John Newton’s beloved “Amazing Grace.”

The visit continued with games as the volunteers mixed in with the residents and had conversations with them. All in all, it was a very eventful day. Be that as it may, such a fun-filled day also had to come to an end. Finally, the volunteers bid their farewells to the residents at the Courtyards of Orlando Care Center. Meanwhile, the residents expressed their gratitude towards the volunteers for coming by.

Such a memorable day for the seniors was made possible through the Church of God’s 2016 East Coast Volunteer Day. This day was part of a multi-state volunteer service campaign, which aims to express the importance of volunteerism through good deeds. As recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the Church of God members in Orlando and Jacksonville plan to continue to serve their community through such events.
